Breast implant fill volume

Except for-prefilled implants, breast implant fill volume is determined by the implant manufacturer and is published in specifications for each breast implant model. For example, the Mentor 350-1470 (device volume 425cc) has final minimum volume 425cc and final maximum volume of 510cc. Anything above 510cc is considered overfill (for this specific model), and conversely anything below 425cc is considered underfill.

Some cosmetic surgeons believe a number of older implant models require implant overfilling to prevent excessive wrinkling and to make them last longer. Overfilled breast implants feel somewhat firmer. Later implant models were registered with higher fill volume ranges so overfilling is not an issue because the optimal fill volume is within manufacturer's specifications.

Some women desire very soft feeling breast implants. One option would be to underfill the implant and use the subpectoral location to compensate for the lack of volume and excessive wrinkling in the upper part of the breast. Unfortunately underfilled implants do not last as long as optimally filled ones.
